Greetings!
With snow and colder weather approaching, our thoughts turn to the neighborhood outdoor rink!
We are looking for both Adult volunteers and Student workers (rink maintenance and rink monitor). Having a strong group of volunteers and workers goes a long way towards a successful skating season.
Please email rink@qualicum.org for additional information or if interested.
- Adult Night Worker (volunteer)
- Fully “own” an assigned night, overseeing snow removal and surface flooding
- In case of absence, responsible for finding an Adult replacement
- Manage and coordinate assigned student workers, finding replacement student worker if a student is unavailable
- Adult Helper (volunteer)
- Assist with pre-season base ice layer. Requires light water flooding throughout various times of the day
- Help with snow removal after heavy snowfall. Work is typically done in the morning after a snowfall.
- Nightly rink maintenance assistance if available
- Student Helpers – Rink Maintenance (paid)
- Perform ice surface maintenance, 9pm-10:30pm nightly
- Includes shovelling, snow blower operation, water hose setup/tear-down, flooding, etc
- Need students assigned to specific nights, as well as additional workers during snow storms
- Student Helpers – Rink Monitor (paid)
- Monitor/observe skating activities when the rink is open (approx 4pm – 9pm M-F and 12:00-9pm weekends)
- Perform light shoveling/snow removal
- Check on change room (if open)
