Who can rent the centre?

Any resident of Ottawa aged 18 years or older may rent the centre.

Where is the centre located?

48 Nanaimo Drive, beside Nanaimo Park in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

What does it cost to rent the centre?

In general, we use the City of Ottawa standard rates. We are a Medium Class B facility.

Most events and parties are $35 an hour. Non-profit group meetings are $10.00 an hour.  Several items must be considered when determining price. Please enquire with the Access Manager for the rate appropriate for your event.

We require that you book 30 minutes before and after your event for set up and clean up.

How do I guarantee a booking?

Once the Access Manager has replied to your email and arrangements have been finalized, to guarantee your booking you must pay for the rental in full and sign the rental agreement form by coming to the Access Manager’s house. You have one week in which to complete this process, after which your rental time may be booked by other groups.

After payment is received, you will learn how to gain access to the centre.

Once a booking has been paid for, the time is reserved for you and will not be rented to other groups.

Until payment is made, rental times are not guaranteed and bookings are considered tentative.

I have made a tentative booking, but still need to arrange to pay and sign forms. Will the Access Manager be contacting me?

No. Once you have made a tentative booking with the Access Manager, it is your responsibility to follow up via phone or email to ensure that a time to meet to sign forms and pay is arranged. If you miss your appointment to sign forms, it is your responsibility to arrange a new appointment time.

Who is responsible for clean-up?

Every renter is responsible for leaving the centre in a clean and tidy state with all equipment returned to its original location. We require that you book a minimum of 30 minutes before and after every event to allow for set-up and clean-up. This also ensures that there is sufficient time between events to allow participants to enter and leave the building with a minimum of confusion.

The cleaning equipment in the janitor’s closet (located between the two washrooms) is available for all renters to use as needed. This includes a large mop with a pail on wheels, large broom, and garbage bags.

If food is served, we require that the floors be mopped.

Is there parking available?

Yes, but it is very limited. Seven spots are available on-site. On street parking is legal, but for the safety of your vehicle, and pedestrians on the sidewalk-less street, please DO NOT park in front of the centre on Nanaimo Drive.

Can I use the equipment in the closets and cupboards?

The chairs and tables in the closet and hallway, and unlabelled kitchen equipment are for all users.

All other equipment in the closets and cupboards is the property of specific community groups and is not to be used by other renters. This includes the playgroup toys and play structure. Special requests for use of community association equipment must be made with the Access Manager at the time of booking.

Can the rooms of the centre be rented separately?

In general, no. When you make a booking you will have access to the whole building. However, depending on the nature of the activities, under certain circumstances two groups may use the centre at once. You will be notified if you will be sharing the centre with another group.

Can my group book the centre for use every week or month?

If there is availability, it may be possible to rent the centre for weekly use. However, all weekly or monthly rentals must be approved by the Community Association.

Saturday afternoons and Sundays are not available for weekly recurring rentals.

What is the phone number at the centre?

613-721-1568

When is the centre available?

Please see  our Google Calendar for availability. When using the monthly view, you will need to click on events to see their duration.

Can I leave the garbage from my event at the centre?

No. To assist the volunteers with their weekly chores, please bring home all garbage, recycling and compost with you.

What facilities does the centre have?

NOTE: Due to COVID protocols, the kitchen is unavailable until further notice.

There are two main rooms in the centre. The large room has a maximum capacity of 60 people and is approximately 1000 square feet. There is no furniture or equipment in the large room. There is a large screen that can be pulled down on the west wall for the use with projectors.

The smaller room is about a third a size of the large room and typically has two rectangular tables and a large upholstered chair in the corner.

Off the large room there is a small kitchen with pass-through access to the main room. The kitchen has a stove, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. The kitchen is similar to what you would find at home. There are children’s plastic plates and cups that may be used if they are washed and returned to the cupboard.

There are approximately 60 chairs available to be set up.

There are approximately 6 small square folding tables and approximately 6 rectangular folding tables available to be set up.

Off the main entrance there is a cloak room with hooks for hanging jackets and bags.

Nanaimo Park, adjacent to the centre, has a large shady playground with several play structures and basketball court.

Can I put up decorations?

Yes, provided they are all removed at the end of the event and they do not damage the walls, ceilings or other fixtures.

How far in advance can I make a booking?

Typically, bookings can be made up to 3 months in advance. In some circumstances, booking farther ahead may be possible.

Are there staff on site at the centre?

No. The community centre is volunteer run, and in general renters will be the only people in the building.

I have a building maintenance issue or cleaning concern. Who do I contact?

The QGP Community Association wants to hear about any building or cleaning concerns you may have, so that we may then address the problem directly or refer it to the appropriate city contacts. Please contact Lauria at 613-721-3423.
